I caught a screening of this movie at the Annecy Film Festival. I was expecting something like the Lego movie with rapid fire pop culture references and a throw anything at the wall attitude.
But this movie was way different than those Lego movies. It's a cute story about a brother and sister that are sent to a Playmobil world. The sister is a regular person, but the little brother gets to be a big, tough guy viking.
This movie was really cute. And all the songs were great. Don't go in thinking it's going to be like Lego. It's definitely got a different feeling throughout. Kids will love it and parents won't be bored when watching it with them.

I started playing games not before i was 13 or 14, when I got my first PC. As a child though, I always loved to play playmobil and lego for hours and hours and most likely on my own. As a little kid my parents told my I were quite sociable, even though always remember myself as a bit shy and often bullied early on, always seeming quite different. This got worse with school were i basically got heavily bullied my whole life until i got out of school. On top of that my partents had a heavily damaged marriage but still insisted to stay together, resulting now - i guess - in some majore health issues on their side. With my first PC i was directly very interested in playing games like sacred or diablo and spend to many hours early on. Later I got seriously addicted to WoW and it took me several times and attempts until I really quit and now mostly don't have the urge to play it anymore - but thats more cause the game changed, is still have the urge to have back the old Arena times i guess... Now since 2 years I picked up League of Legends. I stopped this one also, for over a year, but recently picked it up again. The strange thing with me is, that I always love to play in good and bad times, but the pattern how I play changes dramatically. I'm having chronic depression and sadly had no success with treatments this far, as I every step forward i feel gets me into a deeper personality, but some time later I crash again, being more harsh to myself that I failed again. Now, I have been highly physically active, and having a stable Relationship even with all my problems, so I had times were I were out most of the day, then cooking, cleaning, spending time with my GF and so on. The thing is, all this time I loved to have an hour here and there or an evening once in a while where I can sit back and play. I just love to be at the computer generally, even if its just typing an essay or researching stuff and even more, doing challenging stuff with the Hand-Eyecoordination at the computer. Now, in good times (which are kind of rare), I mostly just play 1-2 games in a row every few days and I highly enjoy them. These are my little islands every once in a while. I tried switching it to watching series, but its just not the same (to passive) as LoL every once in a while. Now, in bad times, it just gets out of hand. As I feel a lack of accomplishment in real life, I get pressured internally more and more to challenge myself ingame and to reach more, and also to distract myself from my emotions and negative feelings. League of Legends is just a stable part of my life at the moment that gives me a lot of happiness, with all its community, the pro scene (that I enjoy just way more then all the soccer games on TV) and ofc, the playing. This urge, seems just to not go away, even in the one year Break to LoL, where didnt play, didnt watch streams, didnt read stuff and didn't even be at the computer except a few movies and essays, I always wished to allow myself to play again under the promise to keep it moderate. Now, I don't really know how, but I started again this year, In a phase where I were overly pressured due to procrastination and depression. First I didn't play much, but as the deadlines got closer and closer I went more and more into it to avoid negative feelings, until it was almost to close, then i stopped completely for the time to fullfill my deadlines, and then I started again. Now, at the moment I'm back and forth. As I also have physical problems (that I highly connect to my depression) that sometimes keep me from doing sport, and I just can't really find the motivation for the Career I chose, that I once had. I still want to be an Osteopath, but I can't motivate myself to work for it, as I'm feeling so low on energy through all the self hate, negative talk and sleep deprivation with depression. Then, with these emotional overload, I play way to much, as this is sometimes seriously the only way I can get calm and reduce some of my negative emotions, that I can atleast get to sleep. At the same time, im still a highly compitive person, and when I then play, I don't stop when I calmed down, but with the new energy try to challenge myself more ingame... Well, so basically now I quit now, deleting LoL, gave the E-Mail and Passwort to my GF and put my keyboard and mouse away (using macbook, cant play with Applemouse and Keyboard). Told her to not give me anyhting of it until 90 days are over. Still, I feel, my urge won't be over then, and probably never will be. I just love my islands of fantasy, be it books, series, games - and League is the best for me, as I feel challenged in strategic thinking compared to other behaviours that fullfill this urge. It just really makes me sad to tell myself to leave Gaming behind, as I don't know what should ever replace that, and I tried it 3 Times for over a year. There is just nothing like it, to have finished all your work, did some workouts and finally having a free night cause the girlfriend has a girl-night out and to play 2-3 rounds of LoL (or other games before) - in the times before I tried regular meditation, reading, playing piano, netflix, Ted-Talks, Learning stuff online etc... I need time where I can shut off from the world, as i'm easily overstimulated by to many people shouting around, but at the same time I get to bored from just passive stuff... so this far, I don't really know with what usefull habits I should replace these gaming times, I mean, if there were no Games i would probably be as happy with still playing Lego as with playing LoL! So, honestly, I don't know how I can really, really quit. I feel like, i will always just quit for time, be it months or years, but in this time, always feel kind of deprive, even if I have full, happy days with a Job, physical activity, an highly active sexlife and a happy relationship. It just feels so wired into myself since early childhood (basically, its just the more high-tech playmobil i feel)... My guess is, there is a chance that I could replace this addictive gaming behavior with social acitvity, but that is a whole other problem, as i'm overly protective, traumatically hurt and extremly self-degrading in that aspect, as also very different in opinions and behaviour, that it feels quite impossible to ever do that, as I can't remember a time in my life, were i ever felt happy and fullfilled being around groups or normal social acitivity - which makes a me a bit sad in a way, as I feel I just can't find the appreciation for a major human part of life. So, just my more than 2 cents, at the moment i don't know want to get out of it, but I guess im just happy with putting some thoughts out of my head there and maybe get some comments of likeminded people are even some helpfull ideas. I sat down to watch the 2019 animated "Playmobil: The Movie" with my son. I hadn't even heard about this movie prior to stumbling upon it. And since I grew up playing with Playmobil, and my son now does so as well, of course we sat down together to watch this movie.
The movie is a little bit slow to start, but once the main characters become changed into Playmobil things brighten up and the movie takes a turn for the better.
First I will say that the storyline was pretty good. Sure, this was a children's movie first and foremost, but it actually had enough contents to it so that I, as an adult, actually always enjoyed the movie.
The CGI was just spectacular, and it was such a blast to watch Playmobil brought to life on the screen in this manner. There is an abundance of details in many scenes, and you'll probably not even notice half of them. My son, for example, he didn't even notice the Ghostbusters vehicle on the express way. So there is a lot to take in, and I believe that fact alone actually makes this movie well worth watching a second time. The first time is for the storyline, whereas the second is to take in all the details.
There is a good feeling to the storyline, and the movie is definitely enjoyable. Not only because of the good CGI and the storyline, but also because of the characters. There was a good amount of nicely fleshed out characters throughout the course of the movie. And while this is an animated CGI movie, having a good and talented cast for the voice acting is a must. And they definitely had that for "Playmobil: The Movie.
It was nice to see Playmobil put in a chip on the animated movie market with this movie, and it was a much needed breath of fresh air from all the Lego movies. Not that there is anything wrong with Lego, not at all, but variety and a change of scenery makes a great change.
"Playmobil: The Movie" is well worth sitting down to watch, and I am rating it a six out of ten stars.
